hosting plan and database question

Hi,

I am looking for a hosting provider. So I have a quick question re the database.

Do you provide a service for daily backups for the SQL Server 2005 and then access to the backups.

I would like to either schedule the backups myself through the management tool or have you do it...whichever is possible. I would also like to have direct access to the backups so that i could taken them down locally and retore locally if there was something i was looking for.

Is this possible...

We do daily backups, but they are for disaster recovery, so you do not have access to them.


Fortunately though, we dohave a backup tool that you can use in Control Panel to do manual backups and restoration, and an API which can be used to automate backups (check in the API forum, there is a thread about methods that can be used).
In emergency situations we can retrieve a backup from our daily backup sets, but there is a fee to do so, the backups only go back 5 to 7 days, and depending on the situation, it can take some time for us to provide the backup.

So, as with all of your files on a shared or commercial server, you should get in the habit of maintaining your own backups so if you do run into trouble, you can use local files and be back up and running quickly.

 

the automated backup thru the api...would it be be possible to set up a daily backup that would store the backup on the server.

i would need something that i could set up and not have to keep messing with...but get access to quickly if i needed it.

On average, how much would it cost to get you to restore a DB...also on average how long would it take you to restore a DB from the time of been asked i.e. in days.
