  1. Hi all,

The control panel shows a Domain Name and a Temporary FTP address.

I've updated my site using the Temporary FTP address. And all functions like I want.

However, the Domain Name when clicked continues to return the message:

This Domain Name is currently parked.
    Please check back soon.

What do I need to do to un-park my Domain Name?

Did I missed something when purchasing my Domain Name?

Or maybe I missed something when I joined DiscountASP.Net?

    Thanks,

  2. Thanks Lukas..

    What is domain name parking?

If you're not ready to host your site then you can register your domain and then leave it pointed to a default page indicating that the domain is registered but not yet being used.

    --------

How do I make my domain point to my website?

In order to get your domain name 'connected' to your website you need either choose a hosting provider, or, if you have free web space through your internet service provider, purchase URL Forwarding.

If you have bought a web hosting account from xxxDomain or another provider, you need to update the DNS servers on your domain name to 'point' it to the web hosting provider's name servers.

In order to make changes to your domain name delegation please first login to our website. You can modify your DNS details through the 'Manage Domains', 'Modify DNS' Details section.

You will need to only enter 2 name server names. This information is provided by your web hosting company.
Once you have made these changes please allow 24-48 hours for these changes to take effect.

If you have an ip address that you need to assign to, such as your home DSL or cable connection then you could use a set of name servers from a provider such as www.dyndns.org, www.no-ip.com or www.dnspark.com.

    Thanks,

  3. What is DNS?

DNS or the Domain Name System is an integral part of the Internet. It refers to a system of computers and databases on the Internet that are responsible for translating a Domain Name into an IP (Internet Protocol) address.

Because humans find words much easier to remember than numbers, domain names were invented to make it easier for people to remember and access various computers connected to the internet.

A Domain Name is a lot easier to remember than a bunch of numbers. For example, www.microsoft.com is assigned to the IP address 207.46.134.157.

A domain name server makes 'www.microsoft.com' resolve to the machine address 207.46.134.157 when you type it into a web browser.

Most isps will run their own name servers, so the resolution of a domain could be different based on this, they may have cached information that is no longer accurate, or they might not be able to contact the authorative name server if there is a routing problem to it.

This is what is meant by propagation delays and why changing the location of your domain name takes a while and also why your isp may have problems while another isp doesn't.

    Thanks,
