How to authenticate a directory but not the home page or whole site?

I have one domain that points to my web app but it has an authentication in the Webconfig so I cannot access any other page on my site until the authentication is passed. What I really wanted is for my home page to be public and then only allow authenticated people to access another directory of pages after they login.
