How to download Bigpond XML Usage Data?

Discussion in 'ASP.NET / ASP.NET Core' started by BarrySumpter, Jun 29, 2009.

  1. Hi all,

I've had a search on the internet and this BB.

I'd like to write an app to download my own Usage Data from Bigpond.

Does anyone know how or where I can find CURRENT info?

I usaully look after the usage but lost the plot this month and we have already run out of bandwidth.

I want to download and analyse the usage as I see fit
so I can send my family members automated emails regarding our usage.
i.e. "Today is the 12th. You are already 3 days ahead of your daily average usage for the month. Please read the following for reducing your usage: " etc.

I'd be happy to share by posting my findings and results here as well.

Any positive constructions suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks and all the best,
    Bary G. Sumpter

  2. This looks very promising so far.

Can't seem to get the .dll to execute on my host though.
I've already opened the appropriate pemission on the containing folder.

Any positive constructive suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  3. Can you confirm if this product requires that it be installed directly on the server? I checked the link you provided and it doesn't say much about the installation process.

  4. Hi Raymond,

The author tells me yes it does.

I couldn't get it to work on my web host.

My web host support tells me I AM allowed to have a .dll to execute but NOT a .exe to execute on my web.

But the would NOT support / help for a 3rd party product.

I ended up using the dos app that generated the xml and wrote a REALbasic app to extract the data from xml file and display is a format I like.

  5. We have the same policy. Its for security and performance reasons and actually for your own protection.

You cant imagine the amount of fly by night components customers want installed on the servers. There is no way to say yes to some and not to others. What if the component has an issue or creates a problem? Its just not fair to the other customers.

If we get enough demand for something though we will test it and install it so everyone can use it.
