How to host two/three sites on the same root?

Discussion in 'Windows / IIS' started by LayLay, Sep 9, 2010.

  1. Dear all,

Really wonder would it be feasible to host two/three sites froom the same root such as www.laylayuniverse.com? If yes, then how to proceed?

What happen is that I intend to place the current site hosted on laylayuniverse.com into 'Churchgate Property' directory/folder/subdomain if that is at all possible. It may be a simple task for you all but I am completely lost!!! Urgently need help here!!!

Many thanks to any help being offered to me!!! Cheers!!!

All you need to do is to convert a folder where you want to place your site to the application starting point. Please login to your control panel, navigate to web application tool, click on your folder, and press "Install Application" button. Please see this KB article for more details. When the web application is installed, you can deploy your site to this folder.

  3. Hi Admitri,

Many thanks for your reply! However, I did as you have guided me in your last message but the web app. replied with

"HTTP Error 404.8 - Not Found
The request filtering module is configured to deny a path in the URL that contains a hiddenSegment section."...

after having entered "http://89.187.103.121/App_Data" where the numbers represent my maindomain, www.laylayuniverse.com.

Any idea how to resolve it?

  4. You won't be able to browse to http://89.187.103.121/App_Data with a browser because ASP.NET treats the app_data folder as a 'special folder' with special permissions that prevents content being served from that location. This is a security feature to disable and restrict unauthorized download of content from that folder e.g. a database file.

  5. Hi CrystalCMS,

Hey, Many thanks!!! Really wonder which folder should I choose if were to host the site?

    1. DATABASE
    2. APP_CODE
    3. APP_DATA
    4. asp_client
    5. Images

    Any idea/suggestion?

You can create new directories and name them whatever you'd like.

  7. Hi mjp,

A great thanks!!! :) Hmmm..... wonder how to create a new directory name? What if I would like to label the new directory as "churchgateproperty"?

  8. Hi CrystalCMS,

Yup. Downloaded the FileZilla but still unable to get the directory set up right...:(

This is reply on my web browser; Firefox:

"Parser Error Message: It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can
be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS."

    after entering this "http://www.laylayuniverse.com/churchgateproperty/"...

Any idea how to resolved it?

  10. Hi CrystalCMS,

Just got the "/churchgateproperty" working at last!!! :D

But as for "/ClassicSSCWebPages".... it does not work if were to be clicked in Facebook.... but it worked perfectly when it was entered directly on the browser....

    Any idea?

    I'm confused.

  12. Hi both,

Many thanks for your guidance so far!!! I really apprciate it!!!

Yup, CrystalCMS's analyses are correct so far except the issue within Facebook (FB). :S

What I have done within FB is that I created a link within 'Notes' which supppose to be redirected to another web site known as "http://www.laylayuniverse.com/ClassicSSCWebPages/HTML/" but for some reason it just refused to work by saying "HTTP Error 404.0 - Not Found The resource you are looking for has been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable." which is not true at all as there are content within the site...

Link within FB 'Notes': <a href="http://www.laylayuniverse.com/ClassicSSCWebPages/HTML/" >Seng Seng Construction Sdn. Bhd. </a>

Yup, if were to enter the link directly it will work perfectly fine but if were to invoke within FB through a link then it does not work.... any suggestion to resolve this issue/broken link in FB?

  13. Can you post the Facebook page URL? Is it publicly accessible? It might help if I can see the <a> tag link you've got there.

  14. Hi CrystalCMS,

Here is the Facebook page URL:

    <a href="http://www.laylayuniverse.com/ClassicSSCWebPages/HTML/" >Seng Seng Construction Sdn. Bhd. </a>

similar as mentioned before in one of the post; 15...

  15. Yes I'm aware of the content in this thread and I'm afraid it doesn't help. In my last post I asked you for the Facebook page URL that contains the <a> tag in it's markup but you've posted a HTML fragment. In other words, I'm asking for the URL of the web page that is hosted in the facebook.com domain.

I'll ask one last time: are you able to post the Facebook page URL? Is it a publicly accessible page or not?

In the year of 1992, 1st plaintive’s business was in trouble. His Premise 48 faced risk of foreclosed by the bank. As to avoid the risk of foreclosure, Premise 48 was hold on trust by Seng Seng Construction through a SMP agreement dated 9.10.1992. Redemption was made by Seng Seng Construction to clear off the bank debts so that the ownership of premise 48 can be transferred back to Seng Seng Construction. There are no other responses being made by Seng Seng Construction. All redemption to Seng Seng Construction was paid in full by 1st plaintive, however until now, Seng Seng Construction fails to carried out equity, i.e. transfer the remise 48 ownership back to 1st Plaintive. On the other hand, premise 48 was being charged by Seng Seng Construction to banks as to get more cash from bank. Now Premise 48 faces risk of foreclosure by bank due to failure of Seng Seng Construction to pay back bank debts. Dato’ Tan Beng Hwa and/or Robert Tan Beng Kheng, Jon Tan Heng Kok and/or Allen Tan Heng Poe fail to clear the bank debts even 1st plaintive has repaid back to Seng Seng Construction ages ago. All this while, Plaintives are staying in Premise 48 and is now facing risk of eviction. This is a fraud and/or deception and disavowal towards 1st Plaintive. Seng Seng Construction is only a trustee of Premise 48 for the 1st plaintive.

This coding you may not be allowed to access as it is part of the FB editing feature... Have a look at 29)...
I am trying to redirect the web page from FB to "http://www.laylayuniverse.com/ClassicSSCWebPages/HTML/" >" by clicking on a link...

Looking forward to a good news from you soon! Cheers! ;) Many thanks in advanced! ;)

  17. I was hoping you could simply supply a URL e.g. http://www.facebook.com/DiscountASPNET.

Your last post that contains lots of text doesn't answer the questions I asked in post#18. I'm sorry I'm unable to help further because there's clearly some sort of communication failure between us here.

  18. Hi CrystalCMS,

Many thanks for your help!!! I really appreciate all the helps you have to offer! ;) I do understand the meaning of URL but it just does not seem to make sense as it will be protected in certain way.... :) But still, may be this will work:
    http://www.facebook.com/index.php?l...9365f0ede67e8#!/note.php?note_id=122043174608
as all my notes under facebook are for sharing with the public! ;)

    Many Thanks again!!! Cheers!!! :D

  19. No it's not protected, it's publicly accessible.
I've looked at the source html at the URL of the Facebook page you've supplied and I can see that the <a> tag contains some strange characters at the end of the href. It looks like: http://www.laylayuniverse.com/ClassicSSCWebPages/HTML/index.html. The '%EF%BB%BF' at the end of the URL is what's causing your 404 problem.

I suggest you look at whatever you used to create that page and make sure the hrefs are clean and contain no trailing whitespace or control characters.

  20. Hey, Many thanks again for the hints!!! ;)

Yup. I believe that's the cause of it unfortunately as it will not be visible to me when I am the creator of that page for some reason...

I guess will find another workaround now...

    Many thanks!!! ;):)

  21. The easiest workaround for that will be to use one of the free URL shortening services on the Internet. Then in your code use the shortened URL.

  22. Hi Wisemx,

Many thanks for your recommendation! Found one! Now just pending for the Confirmation email from "ShortURL.com"!!! :D

    Many thanks again!!!
