I have all my DNS records hosted at Network Solutions. I wish to only change my WWW @ and * records (website related records) to point to the web server that is hosting my site here are DASP. How do I do this without having to change my nameservers to the DASP servers? I want to continue to use the NetSol interface to manage all my records since i have all the people here used to using this site and am happy with their interface. I used the IP of the we server I am hosted on here at DASP, however going to that IP states that the website cannot be found. I assume that it wont work this way. How do I retain management of my DNS records at NETSOL, while using Discount ASP as my web host?
You should be able to use a third party DNS server. Try looking at your DNS Manager in our control panel so you can see what A records you will need to set up on the third party DNS. Trying to visit the IP number directly won't work because its the shared IP number of our web server. So you will get our generic error page. Only your domain name using the IP number associated with the hosting account will work. Unless you set up a Unlimited Subdomain add-on to the hosting account that comes with a unique IP number. Then visiting the site by IP number will work because the IP number is only for your hosting account. Try using our DNS Manager as a example/reference of what records you will need to put in place on your third party DNS system.
