Huge database corruption on phpBB

  1. For no apparent reason, the access database I use for phpBB has dissappeared. The file is still there, but it has a size of 0kb, and obviously cannot be opened.

This is quite serious, because it means all of the posts are lost, and as dasp does their own backups, I have not been doing back ups of my own.

My question: could the database problem be caused by an issue with discountasp (perhaps related to the outage of web106)? If this is not the case, is it possible that dasp would be able to restore my website to a previous back up?

    Please...I am getting desperate [:(]

Please send in a support ticket.

  3. The support stuff were very helpful and have solved the problem entirely.

    Thanks :)

  4. So what was the problem, I want to make sure we don't encounter it

  5. I'm inclined to believe it was just a random phpBB-induced database corruption. It was quite a busy forum, and I probably should have been using a more powerful and efficient database type such as MSSQL.

It is unlikely that DASP were at fault. Despite this, they were extremely helpful in correcting the problem.

I currently use the Scheduled Task feature to automatically perform a weekly backup of the database, in case this incident ever repeats itself.

I believed the problem was caused by a bug with mySQL DB. We have since applied the patch.

  7. Even though I was using an Access DB?

  8. im not sure if this is the problem, but access db's arent meant to be stretched like that in terms of size. Have heard of others with similar problems trying to stick too much data into access..time to upgrade, you will have the same problem again i think....
