IIS 6 vs 7

  1. Hi,
I can't answer about the new FTP features but I do know the DASP team has been looking into that.
As for reasons to move to IIS7, outside of the security improvements I absolutely love the remote manageability.
From the new IIS7 manager you have near-total control, including handling, Data Server, site files, etc.

For the most part the ability to run in two modes, Integrated or Classic, makes it attractive.
Still a few things to look out for are components you may be using that have not been migrated.
DASP just released a very handy IIS7 tool for viewing the Global Assembly Cache.

  2. So, I signed up for an account hosted using IIS6 on Windows 2003 (I believe) and using a SQL2005 database. This is the environment I am used to using as a web developer at my company. I have recently upgraded to Visual Studio 2008 running on XP and it seems ok. Is there any reason for me to upgrade (or not) my hosting plan to IIS7 on W2k8 and SQL2008? I noticed you get secure FTP. Is that available for publishing from VS2008? Anything to watch out for if I transition? How would I upgrade my site if I decided to do so?

    Thanks
