IIS7 Virtual Directories

Discussion in 'Windows / IIS' started by jwynveen, Oct 3, 2009.

  1. Is there a way I can set up virtual directories in IIS7 through the control panel or the IIS7 Manager? I see in the control panel I can set up web applications, but I need to nest virtual directories and applications won't work for that. I found in the IIS manager where I can view virtual directories, but there is no option to add them.

I just contacted support and they said they could add them, but I don't want to have to contact support everytime I need a virtual directory set up. Is there a way I can do this myself? Why doesn't DASP allow me to do it myself?

Virtual directories are typically used to centralize access to data from different physical drives or locations. All of your site files live under one directory on the server, so virtual directories are not really necessary.

We have to focus tool development resources on things that will benefit a large number of our users, and I'm afraid that the creation of virtual directories is not one of those things.

just curious.. why would you want to create a virtual directory?
