  1. Hello,

Has anyone had success installing .text on discountasp.net hosts? I'm about to try but I was wondering if there are any known issues. I'm thinking it will not work due to the fact that it seems to require an isapi filter. Anyway, I'll post my results here later.

  3. Okay, the new .text installed without a problem. I used the latest binary version of .text along with the MS SQL installation.

The only small bump I had was the creation of the first blog. There is an EXE which is the simplest way to create the blogs. It hashes the password which is placed into the database for blog administration. I wasn't sure how to move around this so I used my test machine here to run the EXE and generate a password hash. I then copied the password over to the database on discountasp and entered the few other fields manually.

If anyone has trouble installing please feel free to drop me an e-mail.

    Basic Steps:

    1) Set up your SQL server with discountasp.

    2) Download the binary or source from the .text web site. http://dottextwiki.scottwater.com/ will have the links to the workspace. I suggest getting both or the source only. Then again, I'm a snob.

    3) Find and run the sql server setup scripts in the installation.

    4) Select the proper web.config configuration file and update the needed fields. You will probably only need to change the DB connection string and the e-mail.

    4) FTP all the needed files up to the web server.

    5) Pick a skin or make your own and upload it.

    6) Add a first blog as I talk about above. I am not sure what will happen if you put in an unhashed password but I assume it won't work or you can have no password at all <snicker>. If you need help generating a password and have no other way of doing it, send me an e-mail. Of course, I will then have your password, that isn't such a good option.

These are really basic instruction. Scott at http://dottextwiki.scottwater.com/ has much better ones.
