Hi, I have been struggling trynig to invoke an .exe file from either cgi-bin (either directly or via perl `foo.exe`) or from an ASP page with WScript.Shell. Nothing seems to work... Any hints? Burg.
Um sigh. Yes I have oppened a ticket. The replies are not coherent Are you using SSI? What filename extensions are you using for the files containing the includes? Any info appreciated. I am ready to anandon these guys are service providers. Regards,
Unfortunately from our experience, there are very little shared hosting providers out there that will allow .exe file on there servers. This is a serious security breach. If you really need this option, you may want to consider obtaining a dedicative server foryour site.
I'll be surprised if DASP allows us to call an executable from the server. You should probably open a support ticket and ask them about this.
I am surprised that you can on one hand advertise "we let you run your application" and on the other hand describe a site owner efforts to get something running on their site "a security breach". A security breach to me is very different to a site owner wanting to set up some software. But nice try in attempting to deflect the real issue.
We try to make sure our hosting platform is secure and reliable. Our staff also hasmany manyyears of experience in the hosting business working at and owning different hosting companies. From our experience, when you let customers run exe files on the server, the host opens themselves to a LOT of security issues. We do not allow exe files to run on the server because we want to provide a secure hosting platform for all our customers. If running an exe file on the webserver is mission critical, then we cannot host the site. Eric DiscountASP.NET http://www.DiscountASP.NET
