  1. Hello,

I have a domain www.exportals.com, dnn is installed in the route and this is hosted by discountasp.net

I have a freind who I want to test out dnn on and he has his own domain at www.myfriendssite.com on another host in another country.

I have created a new parent portal in www.exportals.com with http alias called www.myfriendssite.com Is it possible?

    Thanks for help

i believe you can do that

Just make sure you order a domain pointer for your other URL and update the DNS to point to our name servers.

Finally have this working on dasp.

The key for parent portals on other domains Ive found is to ensure you have a unique IP address and you have correctly configured the dns settings on the url your are trying to point at your dnn installation.

I found it easier to ask the host support desk how to change the dns settings.

When creating subdomains on your dasp account you can edit your own dns settings under dasp so that someportal.domain.com points to www.domain.com

Thanks to all for their patience with me, now i can look forward to creating some chaos by developing some modules...

  4. thanks to you for replying.
I believe i haveordered aunique IP address.

Im a little out of my depth with domain pointers but to break down your answers i need to go into the control panel of
www.myfriendssite.com and update his dns to point to www.exportals.com

Which type of dns entry I need to create? (sorry if this falls out the subject a bit from dasp)
    I have a choice of :
    A record
    CNAME record
and Web Alias or Web Forward

    thanks for help!

    DNN modules... good luck!!

One thing to look out for with DNN modules is the memory usage. We have seen some poorly written modules that eat up tons of memory.

  6. Bruce,

Do you have a list of DNN modules that you know are heavy CPU users? I use DNN and would like to make sure that my site does not over burden the system.'

    Thanks,

    Craig

  7. I guess that does not help me very much. There are some excellent modules and some very good programmers who have written them for DNN. If there are some that you definitely know of that are problems, I can try not to use them on my site. Otherwise, I'll use what works for me and hope that they don't negatively impact the servers.

    Thanks,

    Craig

sorry.. i don't have an extensive list. There are so many DNN modules.

You would know if your site slows down significantly after you install the module.
