  1. Hi, I'm new to DiscountASP.net. I would like to commence construction of my website. How do I limit access to my website during contruction, to only myself and nominated persons. That is, the public cannot access the website during this period. Thanks for yor help.

There are different ways to handle this but one easy way is to uplaod a default under contruction page to your site so that is what a user will see when they use your url.

Then rename your real default page to something else and use it for your testing. When you are done testing, then you just need to rename the real default page. Just remember that any links to the home page from your subpages will go to the "under construction" page while testing.

    1. For membership/roles info see this knowledge base article: http://kb.discountasp.net/article.aspx?id=10413
You will need a SQL addonfor your account.

    2. We do have a Root Domain Pointer addon which is a one time $15 setup fee per domain. This would point an additional domain to the root of your main hosted domain so they can pull up the same website. Root domain pointers do not come with email service. If you need the additional domains registered, there is an additional $15/yr domain fee. You can order the Root Domain Pointer via the Control Panel.

  4. Hi Eric,

Thank you for your reply. I think I understand the method you described, which I think if the simplest way.

If I may, can I ask a couple of other questions.
    1. I think I can do a membership scheme, so the members have to logged in. Where can I info on how to this.
    2. I want to have a second (or third) URL go to our website in your center. Is this possible, and what is the procedure.

    A. You would simply update the domain name servers. See this knowledge base article: http://kb.discountasp.net/article.aspx?id=10315
    B. You would contact our Tech Support for assistance on switching domain names. There may be a service fee for the swtich.
C.Yes you would use theRoot Domain Pointer addon

  6. Hi Eric,

    Thanks for your reply.
My current status is as follows.
    1. Currently my website which I reserved with you is tied to ok-key.com, which I bought from you.
    2. I have another URL called opalKey.com, which is currently registered with Yahoo.
What I want to do is as follows.
    3. Due to a change lately, I am planning to use opalkey.com as the primary URL with the website, i.e., change ok-key.com with opalkey.com.
    4. I then want to make ok-key.com point to opalkey.com.
    My questions are as follows.
    A. How can I transfer opalkey.com to you?
    B. Then, how can I change the primary URL for the website from ok-key.com to opalkey.com?
    C. Then, how can I then make ok-key also point to opalkey.com? --> I believe that this is already answered in you latest reply, re Root Domain Pointer addon.

I am sorry for these changes, but business developments have made them necessary.
I await your reply. Thank you.

    Manuel
