  1. To those following this topic...

DiscountASP.NET have offered me a full refund for the services I have paid for, and given me time to find a host that meets my needs.

I would like to thank them for this.

  2. I'm pleased that DiscountASP have been very responsive to coed's situation.

However, I really do think that domain pointers need email functionality. I certainly hope that you implement this feature in the future.

  3. I've just moved a couple of my sites over the DiscountASP.NET, and so far have been very happy with the service from a technical point of view.

However today I have discovered a MAJOR problem with domain pointers. Not only do you have to pay $15 to have them set up (most other hosts offer this free), but now I discover you cannot receive email at all on the pointed domain. So if you have Site1.com and you point Site2.com at it, no emails sent to Site2.com will ever be received. They will always bounce back to the sender.

I assumed emails sent to Site2.com would at least be picked up by the catch-all account of Site1.com - but this is not the case.

This causes me all sorts of problems.

I consider this an unacceptable service, especially when having paid $15 for the domain to be set up.

We have passed your complaint to our product manager.

  5. DiscountASP.Net cannot possibly expect people to accept the fact that they can't catch email sent to parked domains.

If a company has the .COM and .NET extension of their company domain, they will obviously choose one to use as their main domain. But some customers might still send email to addresses at the second domain by mistake. I as a company cannot afford to have those emails go missing - I need to receive them.

  6. Sorry "dasp", I was just adding that comment as you typed your reply.

Thanks for passing it on - I certainly hope something can be done to resolve this flaw quickly. I can't see it being a major change, but indeed an essential one.

  7. DiscountASP.NEt have replied to me with the following comments:

"Sir We understand your position and your complaints have been forwarded to our Product Manager. We will take your suggestions under consideration, but we cannot make any guarantees about launching such features and/or any timeframe. If you misunderstood the services provided or there was a communication problem, then we apologize. We will let our Customer Care staff know about this situation and train them to communicate the services that come with our addons. We do not offer email services for domain pointers. At this time, if you wish to have email services for a domain, then you will need to sign up a separate account. Alternatively, many domain registrars offer url forwarding and email services, which you can utilize as well. We also do not offer the kind of multi-domain hosting service as you describe. Though we could build such a system, we chose not to becsues the backend system is very complex and therefore, will slow us down on our adoption of new .NET technology. You can check out other hosts that offer the multi-domain hosting service. I would not call them innovative. Because of the complex backend, many of them use canned hosting automation software and, therefore, they rely on third party vendors for their product development. Our philosophy is to play on the bleeding edge and be positioned to launch new .NET technology quickly after they are released. In order to do this, we streamline our system and do not introduce the complexities of certain types of hosting."

  8. Coed, if you haven't found a new host yet, drop me an email. I have one that can help you out (I switched to them from here myself). DASP has much better xtra parts (the pdf creator etc) but I believe this other has what you need. Out of respect for DASP I will not post a competitors web address so you have to email me if you want the info.
