  1. Yo!

Earlier today, I accessed my discountasp.net SQL Server 2005 instance viaMicrosoft SQL Server Management Studio Express. While I was poking around, I noticed that if you right-click on your database name, and then click the tasks submenu option, there are options available for 'Backup' and 'Restore'.

I ran a FULL backup using the default backup file name that was loaded in the backup dialog, and was awarded with a message that stated that I had successfully backed up my database to that file. Is this true?

Can I run a full backup of my database before I implement some major website change that I feel might negatively impact my database? Is this backup restorable by discountasp?

Also, I am aware that discountasp performs a nightly backup of all user DBs. I am also aware that one can request a restore of their database from these backups for $15. If I can perform a manual backup (as explained earlier in this post), does this impact the daily scheduled backups in some way?

    Any information would be appreciated!

    Thanks!

Basically, when you issued the backup, the backup file is created on the server. We can restore your database for $15.

I am not 100% sure about this. I'll do some test and let you know.

OK.. i did a test and confirmed that performing the backup will store the db backup in the backup set.

I talked to our DBA, he confirmed this but this is not something we can officially support, ie. it should work but it's no guarantee.

  5. Thank you for your effort on this, Bruce!

Just one more reason why discountasp.net is #1.
