Has anyone tried installing Movable Type into their DiscountASP account? Just wondering if it can be done? If not, is anyone trying to do any form of blogging off their account and what are you using to do it. Thanks!
Many of our customers have installed Movable type on our server. We have not conducted any testing ourselve though. quote:Originally posted by aabbott Has anyone tried installing Movable Type into their DiscountASP account? Just wondering if it can be done? When I sent in a help ticket to discountasp about this, I was told that I couldn't install it on my account. But you are saying I can, it's just not supported by discountasp? For those customers who have done the install, do you know what version of the database they used (mysql, Berkeley DB). Thanks for you help! quote:Originally posted by bruce Many of our customers have installed Movable type on our server. I think support gave you wrong info, i found the following in our internal KB. MovableType is a weblog (blog) system written in Perl. It is compatible with our server. MovableType requires DB_File Perl Module and mySQL Perl module. Both modules are installed on our servers. quote:Originally posted by aabbott When I sent in a help ticket to discountasp about this, I was told that I couldn't install it on my account. I tried installing Movable Type and most everything it needs is present. But, contrary to what the info below suggests, it doesn't appear that either DB_File or the mySQL modules are present. MT's diagnostics display the following: DB_File... Your server does not have DB_File installed. DB_File is required if you want to use the Berkeley DB/DB_File backend. Please consult the installation instructions for help in installing DB_File. DBD::mysql... Your server does not have DBD::mysql installed. DBI and DBD::mysql are required if you want to use the MySQL database backend. Please consult the installation instructions for help in installing DBD::mysql. Is there some reason why it might not be seeing those modules even if they are installed? Thanks! quote:Originally posted by bruce I think support gave you wrong info, i found the following in our internal KB. MovableType is a weblog (blog) system written in Perl. pls create a support ticket, we can double check to make sure those are installed. quote:Originally posted by clang I tried installing Movable Type and most everything it needs is present. Thats pretty much what I found when I tried to set it up, as well. I ended up having to pay for MovableTypes ASP version. Would have rather had it on discountasp but it just never seems to work right. --Aaron quote:Originally posted by clang I tried installing Movable Type and most everything it needs is present. I was just wondering if Discount ASP.net would post steps for installation specific to the server somewhere for us technewbies. I've installed php.BB but it was difficult. Now I would like to install Movable Type but am finding it difficult. They give such generic instructions that it ishard to know how to install this stuff. If I (and my techie friends ) had more time, it wouldn't be so bad. So, a suggestion for Discount ASP.net would be: Include detailed installation instructions for the "Third Party Applications" that run on this platform. And a post here might be nice. Thanks, Regina G
