  1. Move of Data centre....???

Really wonder why my datacentre is moved to the US site? When has it happened? Anyone???

  2. Just to add on to my earlier post....

have a check using "whois" at http://www.who.is/whois/laylayuniverse.com/
and my site should be hosted at UK datacentre.... need urgent help here please....??:(

    Many thanks....

  3. ...I'd like to help you but I have no idea what's going on.
    All the best,
    Mark

  4. Thanks for replying!!! ;) Let's see....

Try to check the location of my site using "whois" as quoted in my earlier post, you may find that my site is now located at US as stated by "Whois"
    IP Location: United States.
So that's where my doubts on my site location arises. Hmmm... am I doing the
    right check?

  5. Any clue to share on the subject matter?

My datacentre appeared to be currently reside on the US so am thinking of moving it to UK. What should I do in order to achieve that?

    Many Thanks! ;)

  6. Here's my take on it: I believe the geo-location being determined by reverse look up and reported by http://www.whois.is/whois is incorrect. Try http://www.topwebhosts.org/tools/ip-locator.php with your IP and you'll see the location is determined and reported as Berkshire UK.

If you use the DASP name servers with your domain, these name servers definitely are in the US and I suspect http://www.whois.is/whois is making an assumption this will also be the location of the web server. This is not the case since the euro zone DASP web servers are located in the UK (confirmed by http://www.topwebhosts.org/tools/ip-locator.php) therefore I suspect a bug in the http://www.whois.is/whois web application.

  7. Hey, that clears up my doubt/concern!

www.laylayuniverse.com is now running smoothly! :D

    Many thanks! CystalCMS!!! Cheers! :D

  8. Here are a few more to support this theory:
    http://www.infosniper.net/
    http://www.ip2location.com/
    http://www.ipligence.com/geolocation

I do this myself in the web application I have hosted on the DASP server to determine the geolocation of visitors to my web site. Since the only thing you can get from ASP.NET/IIS for a visitor is an IP address, some sort of database lookup needs to be performed to turn this into a geolocation. The GPL licensed dataset I use to enable this is here: http://software77.net/geo-ip/.

As with all of these services the accuracy of the geo lookup is based on the accuracy of the dataset in use which is why the accuracy of available services like this online varies. Perhaps one that could be relied upon with some degree of certainty would be http://code.google.com/apis/gears/api_geolocation.html although gears is deprecated nowadays.
