  1. Howdy from the Arizona dessert! I got your heat wave!

I have a Microsoft Access 2003 Project (.adp) running under Windows 2000 or Windows XP Professional that connects to an SQL Server 2000 database hosted by the grooooooovy gang at Discount ASP.net.

Can anybody please tell me how secure the connection is? I've tried to set the Use Encryption for Data Link property in Access to True, but it says encryption is not supported by the SQL Server. Can this be changed on the server? Is there anything I can do in my code, in Access, on the Discount ASP.net control panel, etc. to improve the security of the connection?

Does Access and/or SQL Server 2000 do a good enough job to secure the connection to transfer vital data?

    All thoughts are welcomed!

I don't think the connection is secure over WAN.

We do not currently support encrypted connection with SQL client.

My opinion is that it is relatively safe to connect over WAN. I would recommend you encrypt sensitive database content like credit cardon the application level.
