  1. Why does DiscountASP advertise MS Access support when they do not support Data Access Pages - the only built-in method of publishing databases to HTML in Access? Does anyone know if DiscountASP gives refunds based on this mis-representation?

  2. Unfortunatley it seems technology is not yet at the stage where I could publish a database on the web without programming. This project is too small to justify programming. I could set up remote access to my database instead but it is a shame because I was really excited about the flexibilty of web access.

Data Access Page is designed to be implemented in a secure intranet environment, it was never intent for use over the Internet.

DAP requires MSADC which has known security issue. Most reputatble Windows hosts do not offer Data Access Page support; only web hosts that do not care about security would offer this feature.

We never advertise for DAP support. We fully support MS Access connection with ODBC and OleDB over ASP or ASP.net

I highly recommend you convert your application to use ASP or ASP.net if you intend to use it over the Internet.

  4. In all fairness I have confirmed the above reply by DiscountASP and they are still my favorite host - (sorry). ASP it is and ASP it must be. I consider it a major oversite that Access does not produce ASP pages on it's own. I have been through a number of Access to ASP convertors and beware - many are half-baked, so don't commit until you have the final result live on the web. However one convertor worked beutifully - ASPRunner: http://www.xlinesoft.com/asprunner
As a non ASP programmer I highly recommend it - from Access database to live ASP web page in 5 minutes complete with search and filtering and of course, editing. Now that the pressure is off I am going to learn ASP, but I'm 44, and I swear it's the last computer language I am going to learn.
