Does Discountasp.net have any plans for supporting MS Deploy which is for automating publishing ASP.NET sites to remote servers. http://blogs.iis.net/msdeploy/archive/2008/01/22/welcome-to-the-web-deployment-team-blog.aspx It's supposed to work with Web Deployment Projects, 2008 support for web deployments just came out as well: http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/arch...-web-deployment-project-support-released.aspx Just checking in to see if it's on the radar, this stuff is pretty new still.
MS Deploy does not publish ASP.NET website but rather migrate web site from IIS 6 -> IIS 7 (or IIS 7->IIS7). We have been selected by Microsoft to the prebeta test this product several months ago before it was released for public download. We probably will not use wdeploy because we have our own migration tool. Bruce DiscountASP.NET www.DiscountASP.NET
It CAN be used for migration - and that's probably it's strong suit, but if you read the stuff they've been spewing out lately they're definitely trying to position it for deploy-to-production scenarios as well. From Scott Guthrie's blog: "This tool works with both IIS6 and IIS7 and enables automated deployment, synchronization, and migrating of applications on web servers. If you are looking for a great way to automate the deployment of your ASP.NET applications then this tool is definitely one to check out." Here's a link to the official dope from Microsoft: http://blogs.iis.net/msdeploy/archive/2008/01/22/welcome-to-the-web-deployment-team-blog.aspx
It can be use for data migration (it just simply copy the content) but it doesn't do anything special other than copying data. The main purpose of this tool is to migrate IIS settings as well as other webserver related stuff from 1 server to another. This tool will not work for customer because the servers needs to be on the same network, it uses file share to copy data. Bruce DiscountASP.NET www.DiscountASP.NET
