  1. I'm thinking about moving my site to DiscountAsp.net.
Everything looks good... but I can't seem to "preview" the
    control panel fully.

How extensive is the "MS SQL Server" part of the online control
    panel?

Can I create tables, create fields, create users, create views,
    actually view/edit my data itself?

Is it better than the www.AspEnterpriseManager.com or
    www.MyLittleTools.net control panels?

    Worse than Helm or H-Sphere?

There is no web based SQL manager in the control panel. You can manage SQL with any SQL client like Enterprise Manager or Query Analyzer.

  3. I can't possibly buy/install/setup/update multiple copies of Enterprise Manager on every machine that I use during any given week:
Home, 3 machines at work, friend's house, family, Starbucks, library, etc.

How (and why) would DiscountASP.net "forget" about managing MS SQL
    online?

Even installing a simple/free "online MS SQL" manager would be better than nothing at all.

Even cheapo $5/month hosting companies have it.

You can install any web based MS SQL manager on your own website if needed.

We didn't want to pack functions to our control panel like many other hosts do. We do not see a point in incorporating something into the control panel that you can easily installed on your own.

I'll forward your concern to our product team and we'll re-evaluate this if we get enough request.

  5. Bruce,

    Thanks for the speedy reply.

I didn't know I could "install my own" MS SQL manager here.

    Has anyone actually done that?

    Has anyone installed the:
    www.AspEnterpriseManager.com
    or
    www.MyLittleTools.net control panels?

    Some of my concerns:
    Are they huge installs?
    Are they expensive?
    Complicated to install, or set-up?
    Is there something better?

I really only need to do some simple things like:
    Create/edit/delete new databases.
    Create/edit/delete new tables.
Create/edit/delete new fields (and their data types/sizes).
    Create/edit/delete/view my data.

Or maybe... simply adding a button that points to someone elses
    MS SQL manager?

I think it would make DASP.net *MUCH* more attractive to new
    users.

I'm wondering if a single installation of a $1000 online MS SQL
manager... would be better than making 1000 users *EACH* pay
$100 and finding/installing/configing/updating their own packages.
(If each user paid a single, 1-time $2 fee to DASP.net it would
    easily pay for itself.)

Thanks. I'm extremely surprised that so many MS SQL users are
installing local copies of the Enterprise Manager on their
    machines.

I *RARELY* use "only 1 computer" during any giving
week. It's pretty handy knowing that I can walk up to nearly
any web-browser on the planet and fix/add/change a field in any table... in any of my databases.

I'm done before you could even take the Enterprise Manager CD out
of its case and begin to install it. LOL!

  6. I've used ASPEnterpriseManager version 0.5.1 and it works. It's free, and all you have to do is copy the files to your website and make the folder an web application. Although, their website says NOT to use it to modify production databases. So I wouldn't recommend using it to modify your site's database.

Enterprise Manager is a free tool. You can download the evaluation copy of MSSQL 2000 Server and install just the client tools.

  7. Hey everyone,

I also am having a tough time modifying my MS SQL database in discountasp.net. I am very happy with the service in every other aspect of the hosting but i can;t figure out how i can add and edit tables. I am using Visual Studio.NET and i don;t really want to download the trial verison at MS b/c the projects i am working on are much more long term than the evaluation timeline. That means i will soon have to pay for these tools myself. What was a good free SQL database manager that would be compatible with Visual Studio.NET?

  8. The Client Tools that come with the evaluation version of the SQL Server will not expire.

  9. Bill- get SQL Server Developer Edition, only $40 (Microsoft reduced the price by 90% down from $400), all you need to install is client tools (Enterprise Mgr etc)

EM should be part of the installation of SQL.

  12. I think we can help. Check out our ASP-based remote database manager tool.

ASPdatabase.net is a web-based program that enables remote management of database tables in Microsoft Access and Microsoft SQL Server. With ASPdatabase.net you can view records, edit records, delete records and create new records in a database table. In addition to managing data in tables, you can also manage the tables themselves by creating new tables, dropping tables, adding columns to tables and deleting columns from tables.

Our application should work on any Windows server with ASP 3.0 or greater. No COM objects will need to be installed. Database connections can be established with a DSN or directly to the database in Microsoft Access via a Jet Database connection or in Microsoft SQL Server via IP address.

All that is required on the client is Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or greater on a Windows machine.

ASPdatabase.net is ideal for web programmers who develop database driven websites and need to remotely access database files. Upload a Microsoft Access database file to your web server and use ASPdatabase.net to manage the database file with a web browser. ASPdatabase.net is also great for content managers to use as a data entry tool to databases on a remote website.

And installation to your web server is a snap; just upload and run our ASP configuration script. Then, all you have to do is define your connection(s). Our tool will dynamically evaluate each table and present a user-friendly interface that will knock your socks off.

Please let us know how this tool worked for you.

  13. Which SQL version is this and where can I download it?

    Thanks.
