must have deleted _vti_bin, how can I restore it?

Discussion in 'FrontPage' started by bhouston, Jul 24, 2004.

  1. I just read in the KB that one shouldn't delete _vti_bin. It seems that I learnt a tad too late that FrontPage Extensions are pretty britle -- _vti_bin is already gone.

How can I restore it? Currently it seems that I can't upload by VS.NET 2003 website. I suspect it is a server side problem and my current guess is that it is related to this FrontPage Extensions problem.

I get a 404 as well when I click on the link "Manage FrontPage Extensions" from this page: https://my.discountasp.net/frontpage.aspx

    Thanks for any help.

  3. Hi Bruce,

    Thanks for the reply.

I've tried uninstalling and re-installing FP Extensions a few times now and it seems to make no difference. I still get the 404 error when I click on the "Manage FrontPage Extensions" link.

There seems to be something wrong I am unaware of.

    Any help is appreciated.

I think what happens is that when you manually remove the directory, FP couldn't uninstall itself properly. When you try to reinstall, FP will not install if it see some of those FP directories there. I think you need to create a support ticket to get FP manually reinstalled.

Frontpage sucks!!! I am so long for VS.net 2005 which do not rely of this piece of crap.
