  1. Hi everyone,

I apologize if this has already been answered. I tried to find it, and couldn't.

Short version of my question: I am having trouble getting my subdomain's URL to resolve correctly. For privacy's sake, I'll call it https://subdomain.mydomain.com . Can anyone give me any pointers on this? The two things I need help with are, 1) getting the URL to resolve correctly, and 2) ensuring that this site may ONLY be accessed securely using https, not http.

    Here's the background info:

    * I have already installed my SSL certificate, which included getting a unique IP address from DiscountASP.net. That IP address is 64.78.167.14

    * My site comes up fine if I use the Alternative URL provided by DiscountASP.net

    * If I try to access my site using its IP address, http://64.78.167.14, I get a 'The connection was reset' error.

    * If I try to access my site using its subdomain, i.e. http://subdomain.mydomain.com, I get 'Server not found Firefox can't find the server at subdomain.mydomain.com.'

    * My root domain is hosted on another web host. I'll probably move it to DiscountASP.net at some point, but right now there isn't time. For now, the DNS servers for my root domain still point to the other host.

    * I have another subdomain hosted on my original host (not DiscountASP), and the way I set this up was to go into the setup for my account on the other host, go into the Domains Manager on the other host, and set up http://othersubdomain.mydomain.com, Type A, to point to the IP address on my other account. This one works fine. I have done the same thing so that subdomain.mydomain.com points to my DiscountASP IP address, but since I'm getting 'connection was reset' errors, this doesn't work.

    * I tried, but I can't seem to figure out how to get my other host to redirect my subdomain to a URL (my alternative URL on DiscountASP) instead of an IP address.

NOTE: When I signed up for my new account on DiscountASP.net, I may have made a mistake, since I entered my root domain in the wizard and now my control panel tends to look as if it expects that I am going to have the DNS servers point to DiscountASP.net, which I can't do right now because I can't move my main site yet. Could this be causing the problem?

Thanks in advance if any of you can help me to resolve this.

You cannot use alt URL w/ HTTPS because it uses a shared IP.

You should be able to access the site using both HTTP or HTTPS using the IP address though. If you can't, it could be a setup problem. I recommend you open a support ticket.
