  1. Most of my mails (I mean subjects, not mail bodies) are brought automatically to my Outlook Express (OE) IMAP account w/o any problem. Many of them are spams but ...

Every day, at least few mails are notified by OE as present in my Inbox as

    Inbox (2)

but their subjects dont appear inOE. I can wait hours and hours, recive other mails in meantime, but the subjects of those fewnever reach my OE. I have to accessmy account via webmail.<our_domain> andget rid of the messages.

Those lazy messages have no particularities except that they are always (up to now) spams.
I am a bit tired ;-) to access everyday my account via IE.
The phenomenon startedafter introduction of SmarterMail.

Have you any suggestion or remedy ?

  2. This must be a problem outside SmarterMail.
    Seem to me anyway...
I use Outlook 2007 daily with SmarterMail and the SmarterMail Sync Tool.
(At the same time I'm also pulling in my Comcast mail and my Hotmail.)

Have you tried setting up an additional E-Mail package, like Eudora? To test with...

I have seen similiar problem with Outlook / Outlook Express before. One of the message is stuck andcan never be downloaded.

I contacted MSFT support. They suspected the problemis related to a virus scannerand they had me disable everything using MSConfig. Once I disabled all other services running on my computer, i was able to download that email.

    I was having problem w/ POP3 though.

  4. First, to reply to wisemx :
Thanks, but for pragmatic reasons I cant abandon OE (mine is OE6).
BTW, the only thing which changed is new mail server (SmarterMail), so it seems logical to look first there for the reason of the present discriminative download.

    Now, for Bruce :
Thank you too. I have no antivirus software. Anyway, as far as I can know, nothing changed on my side. Those recent days I got a stock of 9 non-downloadable mails in my Inbox. They are all "viagra-rolex" kind spams. Such spams used to have their headers tinkered in non-orthodox manner. I am afraid that SmarterMailtries tobe smarter then the previous server. The old saying : "Better is the worst enemy of Good" may be the key to the issue.

Since you seem to be DASP man, have you any means to monitor the negotiations between my OE and your SmarterMail ?

Happy New Year to both of you,
    Jacek

In my OE' Inbox the messages are sorted by date w/ the newest on the top. Inspired by the above log ordering I scrolled to the bottom of my Inbox list and ...[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]... there are 9 messages preceded by the "closed enveloppe" icon but with neither sender, nor subject, nor reception date (this is why they appear at the end of the list).
BTW, all those messages appear in the SmarterMail Inbox with all those attributes.

Since my OE is configured to download only subjects, I downloaded the first of the "no-subject" messages. It contains Rolex ad but moreover the sender, the subject and the reception date which can be read in the message source but they still don't appear next to the "open-enveloppe" icon in my OE Inbox list.

What is most important for me that within my OE I can purge those "no-subject" messages. So, thank you very much.

Nevertheless, the mystery of lacking message attributes remains.

  7. My joy was short.
Yesterday I purged all 9 "no-subject" messages. But today I got in the SmarterMail Inbox another 3 which don't appear at all in my OE Inbox.
The OE log final part is

I wonder whether the three fetches
    * 20 FETCH .....
    * 21 FETCH .....
    * 22 FETCH .....
correspond to the three non-downloadable messages ?
Is here anybody capable to deduce anything from the above log ?

  8. If you've never tried Eudora check it out...free:
    http://www.eudora.com/download/

    Qualcomm isn't selling it anymore.
    Current version will remain free.

It's at least 20 times faster and lighter than Outlook Express.
Very easy to configure, even for multiple accounts.

I did some research and I think this isa bug w/ Outlook Express but I can't really confirm it.

Like Mark was suggesting, have you tried it with another email client?

  10. Mark,

    1. The fact that Eudora became free is both a good and a bad news ;-)
I downloaded their User Guide and I found nothing about possibility to export all content of the underlying database. In that respect I am already trapped by MS and I wouldn't like to repeat the experience w/ another client.

    2. Isuppose DASP.net does want to remain "OE compatible". I don't know details of Bruce's research concerning supposed bug in OE. I wonder whether he is able to produce a message which will behave in the pathological way I experience ?

  11. I've been using Outlook and Eudora side by side for years, even now.

With Eudora you can have it save your mail boxes and mail in files.
I've been doing that for my wife so she can back them up easily.
She's even moved her Eudora mail from one PC to another, effortlessly.

A simple trick I've been using on new system is to install Eudora, then drop my previous mail into the folders.
    Works every time.

I haven't used Eudora with SQL Server like I do with Outlook but I've never needed to.
    Salute,
    Mark

  12. No I didn't try another client.

In the recent days I noticed :

    1. Sometimes non-downloadable emails appear many hours (sometimes 24) later in my OE Inbox as no-subject messages.

    2. For the first time the phenomenon occurred for a email not marked by SmarterMail as SPAM, i.e. a non-downloadable email had in SmarterMail Inbox the subject w/o SPAM qualificator.
