Popping sounds viewing Silverlight

  1. Salutations,
If you have an ASUS sound card and you are having trouble with sounds in Silverlight, including the Smooth Streaming webcasts on http://www.dasptv.com/ . . .

In the ASUS Xonar Control Panel look for a small button labeled GX.
Turn it off then go back and view the Silverlight page.
(You have to at least refresh the page.)

After turning this off and refreshing the page you should have good sound.

Ah, I'm disappointed. When I read the subject I thought Silverlight was blowing up computers or something cool like that...

  3. ;-)
It only adversely affects sound bro.
(Maybe I should have said: It affects your effects!) hehe

  4. What does GX do? Some sort of pseudo-surround type stuff?

  5. ...Most noticeably the sort of effects where in DirectX you hear "depth".
Say for example in a game where a grenade is tossed. . .
You won't only hear the explosion but also the direction of the sound and the amplification, also referred to as DSP.
It's like having someone in a large room move around and yell but in different directions.
That's where you notice DSP the most.
Imagine for example in an empty basketball court how sound projects.
    Salute,
