Port 1433 open for access to SQL Azure?

    I would like to modify my web app to use a SQL Azure database. The only port defined by Microsoft for SQL Azure access is 1433.

    Is this open by default or can it be opened?

    A number of hosting providers including GoDaddy and Accuwebhosting have 1433 completely blocked so Azure access is not supported (unless you upgrade to one of their $ cloud platform).

    you should be able to connect to a remote SQL server over port 1433 from your webapp
