Problem with Email Management

  1. I have previously submitted this issue to discountasp.net support, but since I was their only customer experiencing this issue they simply referred me to a Microsoft support site(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/276393) and Google. </o:p>
    </o:p>
    The problem is this: When I click the Email Management menu item, I get the following error message:</o:p>
    </o:p>
    "Iexplorer.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close". When I view the error details there is an error signature with kernel32.dll. </o:p>
    </o:p>
    As things are right now I cannot use Email management properly. I have tried at least four different computers andEmail Managementdoes not work on any of them, except one single user on one computer (I have absolutely no idea why it works on that particular user and not anywhere else). It also works in failproof mode with network connection (I can add and remove email addresses under email management), but the graphics is very bad.</o:p>
    </o:p>
    This is not an isolated problem. If it was just my PC that was the issue, why does it fail on 4 different computers and at least two different wireless networks (I also tried my neighbor?s wireless network, it did not work there either)?? I would like discountasp.net to look into this matter thoroughly.</o:p>
    </o:p>
    Thanks</o:p>

  2. My operating system is Microsoft Windows XP professional version 2002 service pack 2. The operating system of my sisters computer, (where Email Manage Management page failed too), is Microsoft Windows XP Home edition version 2002 service pack 2. Two other laptops where I tried it, and where it also failed, has Microsoft Windows XP professional version 2002 service pack 2. The Browser for all computers is Microsoft Internet Explorer, version 6.0.2900.2180.</o:p>
    </o:p>
    Here follows specific information about the error message:</o:p>
    </o:p>
    "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are </o:p>
    sorry for the inconvenience. To see what data this error report contains, click here:"</o:p>
    </o:p>
    It says further that the file c:\...\temp\f5b0_appcompat.txt will be included </o:p>
    in the error report and in the error signature there is a reference to </o:p>
    kernel32.dll.</o:p>
    </o:p>
    What makes me confused is that it is possible to enter the email Management page</o:p>
    from one XP user on one of the computers I have tested. It is strange. </o:p>
    </o:p>
    I followed the link that vsharma referred me to and followed the instructions. First I uninstalled Google toolbar. I restarted iExplorer and tried to enter the email Management page, but it did not work. </o:p>
    </o:p>
    Then I tried to disable third-party browser extensions in Internet Explorer according to the instructions. It worked. I tried the other computers too, and this definitely resolves the issue, but to what cost?</o:p>
    </o:p>
    I don't know if third-party browser extensions is something I need, it is at least not impossible. Besides, I have been doing a lot of reading on the internet on Kernel32.dll related problems and I understand that some features in Websites may conflict with Kernel32.dll. Maybe discountasp.dll should consider simplifying the email Management page? After all, all computers I tested apparently run a third-party browser extension that conflicts with Kernel32.dll as I enter the email Management page. Perhaps it is the pie chart in the upper right corner of the email Management page that is causing problem? I understand that Excel web extensions may conflict with Kernel32.dll sometimes. I don't know if this is an Excel web extension, but the bottom line is, the more complicated a page is the more likelyit is to cause problems for some browsers.

    Thanks</o:p>

  3. Hrm... so one of the 3rd party extensions is causing the problem? Can you disable them one at a time until you find the culprit?

    We are unable to replicate or generate any sort of error on our end. We have tested in IE6, IE7, FireFox, FireFox2, Maxthonand Safari on a Mac and they all work just fine. Knowing what extension is causing the problem can help us debug.

    The pie chart is just a GIF file, it wouldn't cause the crash.

  5. It could be a 3rd party extension or toolbar causing the problem too... What 3rd party extensions are you running in your browser?

  6. It's because nobody here has the "QuickFind BHO Object" installed. Though after doing a little research I have found this article...

    http://www.aplus.co.yu/scripts/ie6-scriptaculous-quickfind-bho-pure-virtual-function-call-error-ie-crash/

    It seems that the crash is caused by a bug inside QuickFind. After reading the article, it looks like there isn't any update for this piece of software either as the company (it appears) no longer exists.

    Thanks for your help in solving this problem :)

  7. Following your advice, I found out which particular add-on is conflicting with the e-mail Management page. </o:p>
    </o:p>
    It is called "QuickFind BHO Object" and refers to the dll file IEHelp.dll. I guess I can</o:p>
    manage without that one. Thanks? for your help. What still bothers me is that no one on your end has been able to replicate the error.</o:p>
