  1. Hello!

I purchased a database from Discountasp.net, for 10/month. So you'd naturally figure that there's a phpmyadmin or some database management tool to use to run queries, or to create tables, etc. ....

But from what I understand, is it true that you have to purchase an extra 5/month just in order to manage the database you purchased, or am I missing something?

Is there something I can do to avoid paying an extra 5/month to management my database? Any guidance would be truly appreciated! Thanks!

I'm not sure where you got the extra $5 a month from.

    But no its not true.

Once you bought your SQL database you can use SQL Server Management Studio to connect to it and manage it.

Please read our knowledge base article on How to connect to SQL Server 2008 using SQL Server Management Studio

If you are using a MySQL database. You can use MySQL Workbench to manage the MySQL database. Please read our knowledge base article on How to connect to MySQL using MySQL Workbench You might also find this knowledge base article helpful here: How do I connect to MySQL?

  5. Actually, all of this information in antiquated. I have the MS SQL Server R2 database that I purchased. I go to the https://my.discountasp.net/mssql2008r2-manager.aspx section after clicking "manage", and then the real fun starts. There are 3 columns -- one for "Database Information", one for "Login Manager", and one for "SQL Tool Suite". KB instructions suggest there's a "connect to server" button, but there is nothing of any sort. There is just information about my database, but absolutely nowhere to manager it.

Now I could download Workbench (which I did), but that was impossible to get a connection to, and the KB instructions didn't match up to the current version of Workbench. Server names, ports, hostnames, etc,. it's just too much -- and I could find nothing on a port name.

I could download phpmyadmin, as it's free, but I shouldn't have to download all these things. I should be able to go into the Discountasp.net control panel, and manage my database from there.

Whether it's just an error or not, as of right now, it's completely impossible to manage my database given the current KB instructions.

None of the information is "antiquated."

You don't really use MySQL Workbench or phpMyAdmin to connect to an MS SQL server/database. I'm not sure where you got the idea that was the case. Have you tried SQL Server Management Studio?

Don't take this the wrong way, I'm just trying to help you - but are you sure you want to use an MS SQL database? What are you doing, anyway?

  7. I understand; I'm not taking it the wrong way ... I know you're trying to help.

But for instance, when I go to Discountasp.net database manager and I click that tiny link https://sqlwebadmin.discountasp.net (powered by myLittleAdmin)

Well, that brings me to my login inforfmation.

Server name: SQL2k805 (I'm pretty sure this is correct)
Database: YAFNETSQL2008R2_856315_ussvision (this has to be correct)
    Login: SQL2008R2_856315_ussvision_user
    Password: I know my password.

When I try to connect, it always gives me an error. I submit support tickets, but they can't figure it out either. So I'm at quite an impasse. But I do appreciate you taking the time to read my postings and trying to help as best as you can. Thank you again!

  8. Everything actually was correct, except for the YAFNET in the beginning of the login name -- which didn't belong there.... thanks to Dimitri for noticing.

    Thanks again for your help!
