  1. I decided to take a shot at web-based game development by extending the CSK 1.1. The interface is a bit clunky (the game was more hacked then designed), based on a popular board game (popular with the wargame market) published in 1971.

My laptop died in the middle of development and I purchased a new Vista box, only to learn that SQL 2000 is not support along with my VS 2003! So, I've been working with the Virtual PC and living with its querks.

Has anyone recently moved from VS 2003 to 2008? I was thinking about skipping 2005 and going directly to the new stuff and suffer the learning curve for such a move.

  2. When ASP.NET 1 came out I was a developer at Siemens...
We were much happier with Macromedia Studio at that time for web projects.
VS2003.net was only used for SDK code, not web projects.
I was even using it for the Valve SDK, which is extremely messy if you've seen it.

Now on Vista I'm using VS2008 and it is working better, for me, than it did on the same machine with XP Pro.
I'm not ready for SQL Server 2008 yet, still using SQL Server 2005 with VS2008, which works out great on Vista.

All in all you'll find VS2008 easier to manage, much easier actually.

I'd like to share a bit of advice about the site, from experience.
You seem to be onto a really cool thing there, however...
    Be careful about your target.
Some countries, Germany and Brazil for example, will not allow certain content/images.
Even if they are historically accurate you will get barred from those countries if you post certain content.
    Salute,
