  1. For those using SQL Server 2005 and would like to encrypt some information in the database.

SQL Server 2005 allows a choice of Algorithm for generating symmetric keys.
Does the DASP DBA have a preference, i.e. is there an algorithm we should (not) use for server performance reasons.

Is it ok to use AES_256? or should this information not be discussed on the forum?

Sorry for the late post, I missed this one.

Symmetric keys are supported and the selection of algorithm is entirely up to you. If your database starts causing problems, the database admin will let you know ;)
