redirecting to another domain name

  1. I have to preface this post by telling everyone that I had a stroke. It is extremely frustrating for me that I have trouble understanding simple directions. I get confused easily so please be patient.

    My primary domain is, http://www.strokenet.info/.

I have a folder in my ftp called, caregivermanual. I have handbook.htm located in that folder.

My goal is to have http://www.strokecaregiver.org/handbook.htm setup so that it is a viable url.

With my last Registrar, Invision, strokecaregiver.org was pointing to ns1.dnswebserver.net. It was a simple setup.

I switched Registrar's to Godaddy last month, using Discountasp's DNS NS1.DISCOUNTASP.NET and now http://www.strokecaregiver.org/handbook.htm does not connect.

I am totally confused! What do I do now?

You need to add strokecaregiver.org as a domain pointer.

    To add domain pointer service:
    - Log into the control panel at http://my.discountasp.net
    - Click "Order Add-ons" on the left hand side

  3. Discountasp gave incorrect information

Ray, why did you tell me to purchase an add-on from Discountasp? I told you I need to point to a folder in my ftp. I just read this information:

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT ROOT DOMAIN POINTERS:
    - The Root Domain Pointer addon has a one time setup fee of $15 per domain name.
    - This addon will point additional domain name(s) to the root of your primary hosted domain.
    - You can enable email aliases with Root Domain pointers.
    - We DO NOT point additional domains to subdirectories.

What you told me is incorrect!

No, it's correct, but the information was not complete. You need to add the extra domain as a domain pointer first so that the DNS will resolve correctly and an IIS host header will be added. If you want the folder /caregivermanual to display http://www.strokecaregiver.org when accessing it, you're going to need to use the URL Rewrite module. These links have more information:
