  1. I've read many posts about the root pointer, and I understand that the second domain cannot point to a subfolder without a Response.Redirect, but here's my question:

What will the visitor see when he/she visit's my second domain (root pointer done with a A record). Will the second domain remain in the browser as they browse around the site or will the browser change to the original domain (DiscountASP registered)?

Has anyone already implemented this root pointer and willing to publish there domain names so we can see the effect ?

    Many thanks in advance,

With the root domain pointer, the visitor should see the root domain pointer domain name in their browser location window.

  3. Hi Eric,

Not in our case, as detailed in this post (http://community.discountasp.net/default.aspx?f=9&m=7937). It's possible that we missed something to get at the desired end result.

It would be good to know the experience of other members who haveavailed ofthe Root Domain Pointer add-on, i.e., whether or not their DASP-subscribed URLsare correctly being masked by the domain pointers in the browser address bar.

  4. masking the address bar? I'm sorry you totally lost me in that last post.

Can you please post the results you are trying to achieve and the problem you are experiencing in detail? ie (what you're typing in, what you expect to see) and maybe a few links to some examples?

  5. Hi Joel,

    Thanks for the reply.

    Backgrounder:
    Our DASP-hosted domain: ourDomain.com
    Domain pointer add-on: ourDomain.com.xx
Our portal site subdirectory (DNN 403): \portal
Root contains index.aspx w/c basically does a redirect to our \portal subdirectory to open up our main site

    Scenarios:
User types in "ourDomain.com.xx" in the browser address bar
    Browser address bar shld read:http://ourDomain.com.xx/portal
Actual address bar link being shown: http://ourDomain.com/portal

User types in "www.ourDomain.com.xx" in the browser address bar
    Browser address bar shld read:http://www.ourDomain.com.xx/portal
Actual address bar link being shown: http://ourDomain.com/portal (same as above)

Bruce, one of your moderators has pointed out that it could be DNN that's causing the undesired results, as detailed at the end of this thread - http://community.discountasp.net/default.aspx?f=9&m=7937. After doing the tests he mentioned, domain masking worked as it should (using the.htm test files).

To conclude, domain pointers do indeed mask the DASP-hosted site URL in the browser address bar. We just might need to do some tweaks with our DNN settings or worse - patch up some code - to achieve this.

Feels good to know we're with the right host - manned by technically competent people![IMG]

    Thanks Bruce, Joel, & DASP.
