This question was ALMOST answered in another thread.
I have a first domain name URL which is the root pointer for my DiscountASP domain.
I have a second domain name URL which is parked at goDaddy.
I'd like to point the second URL to my DiscountASP root.
I don't want goDaddy to use a masked redirection. I really want the domain name to point directly to my root.

What do I need to do?
    --1-- at goDaddy ?
    --2-- at Discount ASP ?

    THANKS in advance!!!

    OK!
I have gone to goDaddy and used their control panel to forward my second domain URL to my first domain URL which is the root at DiscountASP.

Is my next step to use the DiscountASP control panel to set a root pointer?
Since this costs $15, I want to check first before doing the wrong thing.

    RELATED QUESTION
I am planning to use ASP.Net to handle the interpretation of incoming requests to my Root Domain so that I can do something different for the second URL than I do for the first URL. I've been fooling around with Visual Studio and have a couple of ideas which involve Request.ServerVariables.

Am I on the right track? Is there a specific parameter that contains the URL that the browser originally used?

    Thanks in Advance!

If you are using Godaddy's URL forwarding, then you do not need to add the root domain pointer addon. Basically, the URL will change in the browser so the user will know that they went to another domain.

If you add the root domain pointer addon, then you would need to turn off the URL forwarding at Godaddy and update the domain's name servers to point to our location. Then the URL would bring up your main hosted website and the URL will not change in the browser so the user will not know that they went to another domain.

It really depends on what kind of user experience you want.

We are getting VERY CLOSE to the answer I am looking for!

I really DO NOT WANT the internet DNS to go to goDaddy and then go to DiscountASP. I especially do not want goDaddy to place the request in a zero border frame - and then go to DiscountASP. That is useful for certain things, but NOT what I want.

Are you telling me that I should (somehow) update the internet DNS to point DIRECTLY to DiscountASP?

If so, then I know what you are talking about, but I do not know the steps that I should be following or who I should be contacting to make this happen.

ALSO - what information do I need to do this? Do I need to know the IP addresses at DiscountASP?

You can tell that I am outside my experience here.

We are VERY close -- please take me to the goal post! Thanks!!!

  7. I have a related question about root domain pointers.

IfI have a root domain pointer addon, is there a limit to the number of domains I have pointing to it?

    thanks - brian

If you use Godaddy's url forwarding then the URL will change in the browser. Godaddy does say they have some masked url forwarding - i think they just open up the destination site withina frame. You can test it out. Not sure this is the user experience that you want.

The root domain pointer will point the domain to the root of your hosted account, so they can pull up the same website. The user will not see the domain change in their browser. We do not point domains to subdirectories.
