I did a simple test with Expression Encoder 3 to produce silverlight smooth streaming output and put it on my alternate url server on discountasp.net. But i get an error in french which was in english "impossible to open numfra_01.ism\Manifest. Need IIS7 with media services... AG_E_NETWORK_ERROR". Do you have any idea ? I still work with alternate url as the DNS of my site did not point yet on discountasp.net. Thank you
Are you hosted on IIS6 by any chance? IIS Smooth Streaming is a feature of IIS7 media services; http://team.silverlight.net/product-technology-deep-dive/announcing-expression-encoder-3/
Ok it's perhaps something not supported on the DASP platform. A quick search in the forum suggests that DASP do not provide any sort of media streaming facility. One option could be to host your media on http://silverlight.live.com/ and host the application here.
Media Services are an add-on of IIS7 which enable silverlight smooth streaming and I asked DiscountASP if they have installed it yet which seems to be rhe case. Yes, I have already posted some app on http://silverlight.live.com/ but Microsoft silverlight live will be discarded at the end of the year 2009 so I am actively looking for some other solution.
It is very annoying that Media Services are not installed. Does DiscountASP plan to install them ? There is a lot of talks about smooth streaming with Silverlight and there are almost any host providing this service...
