  1. Hi,

I live in the UK and use discountasp.net as my host. I'm finding the speed (i.e. how long it takes to appear and subsequently move between pages) of my website to be dreadful and was wondering whether it was an issue with my website or because the servers are hosted in the US. Does anyone else in the UK have speed issues?

  2. What can I say Nick, I've seen you code :)

Seriously though, my site has no speed issues, and I've been playing with PHPBB using an Access database....

But the ongoing crap email service is another story!

  3. Some pages seem to take a little bit longer to come up than a static page, but nothing really slow.

Right now I suspect the application you are running. The initial load took a while, I'm suspecting there are a lot of binaries or largebinaries in the bin? Or something is going on in the global.asax file. Though not knowing what you are running or what the code looks like I can't really be sure.

Create a new Web Application and put up some generic pages and test those, you'll probably notice they open instantly.

  4. Ahhh, Sherlock my boy. You commenting on the quality of my code is a triffle rich. I've seen the reporting solution that you wrote. Shocking is the only word I can use.

    :)

  5. Nick,
I'm also in the UK, and don't seem to experience the problems you describe, having been with discountasp for over 2 years. Even your own site loads quickly, as do various links I tried. I'm only ona 256K ADSL connection, and am currently using IE7 which does seem to render significantly faster than IE6 variants. Perhaps an ISP change is in order?
