  1. We use the SmarterMail web interface for all e-mail. Although it seems to hog up IE 7.0, our biggest issue is the spell checker: really lame. In the previous SmarterMail version and even prior to the switchover to SmarterMail at DASP.NET we would use the spell checker on the Google toolbar, which is excellent inour opinion. However, the Google toolbar isn't available when composing or replying to e-mails in the current SmarterMail version. Any suggestions on howwe might be able to get around this?

Can someone pass along this issue to the people at SmarterMail?

  2. Hi,
The Spell checker in the current version isn't working good enough for you?
I just tested it on SmarterMail Enterprise 5.5 for my account with a really messed up sentence and it caught everything.
The Google spellchecker was something I really liked too but I stopped using it since I beta test IE8 for Msft Connect.

  3. The SmarterMail spell checker falsely catches URLs in the messageas spelling errors and the spelling suggestions it offers are really bad compared to the Google checker. Often, theintended word isn't even on the list of suggestions. Google is almost always spot-on with its top suggestion, and the whole spell-check process goes much smoother.

Obviously, SmarterMail invested a lot of time into their spelling feature, but it comes up way short of the Google toolbar. I just would like to be able to use the Google toolbar with compose/reply pop-up window.

Haven't tried out out IE8 yet. Are you saying it has built-in spell checker comparable to MS Office?

BTW: SmarterMail will barf on every element of an embedded link. The following examplelink causes SmarterMail to hiccup 8 times:

For this reply, the Google toolbar only complains about "SmarterMail" being misspelled, not the above link. The suggestions it offers are really good, but I selected the option to add it to my dictionary.

Once you've had a taste of the good life, it's hard to go back to a less-superior environment.

  4. Hi,
No I'm not using any Spell checker in IE8 beta2, I have to fly it bare bones to provide proper feedback.
I'm a big, longtime, support of the IE team...Going way back to when I actually distributed IE and Netscape.
    Pre-1999 just about any Microsoft dev would wish "Netscape would go away". <v:shapetype id=_x0000_t75 stroked="f" filled="f" path="m@4@5l@4@11@9@11@9@5xe" o:preferrelative="t" o:spt="75" coordsize="21600,21600"><v:stroke joinstyle="miter"></v:stroke><v:formulas><v:f eqn="if lineDrawn pixelLineWidth 0"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @0 1 0"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum 0 0 @1"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @2 1 2"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelWidth"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelHeight"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @0 0 1"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @6 1 2"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelWidth"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @8 21600 0"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelHeight"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @10 21600 0"></v:f></v:formulas><v:path o:connecttype="rect" gradientshapeok="t" o:extrusionok="f"></v:path><o:lock aspectratio="t" v:ext="edit"></o:lock></v:shapetype><v:shape style="WIDTH: 11.25pt; HEIGHT: 11.25pt; VISIBILITY: visible; mso-wrap-style: square" id=Picture_x0020_1 alt=":p" type="#_x0000_t75" o:spid="_x0000_i1026"><v:imagedata o:title="p" src="file:///C:\Users\Mark\AppData\Local\Temp\msohtmlclip1\01\clip_image001.gif"></v:imagedata></v:shape>
Honestly I've remained faithful all these years.
    No...I won't go as far as defending IE6, gosh that one was pretty bad. <v:shape style="WIDTH: 11.25pt; HEIGHT: 11.25pt; VISIBILITY: visible; mso-wrap-style: square" id=Picture_x0020_2 alt=";-)" type="#_x0000_t75" o:spid="_x0000_i1025"><v:imagedata o:title=";-)" src="file:///C:\Users\Mark\AppData\Local\Temp\msohtmlclip1\01\clip_image002.gif"></v:imagedata></v:shape>
