  1. Are SQL Server and MS Desktop Edition almost identical? With the latter, for local testing?

I'm just curious because I need to learn SQL Server Administration and if I can use MSDE.

MSDE basically have almost the same function as MS SQL. The major difference is scalability (limited database and connections) and lack of management tool.

    See http://www.microsoft.com/sql/msde/productinfo/overview.asp
