  1. HI,
I can't understand why we don't have at least one Database of 200M included with the hosting plan.
Others hosters have this option, why do i have to pay more $10/month for a database? The relation between aspnet2.0/3.5 and MSSQLServer DB is very strong. I need tha database for membership, profile and tht stuff. But i don't want to give more $10.

Maybe someone can explain this to me. I'm thinking on changing webhost, not very happy with DiscountASP :(

  2. Those other hosts are muddying the water.
Honestly DASP is doing this the correct way.

Your DB is not calculated on your site space and you aren't paying to store the log.
With DASP we get a SQL DB that is not on our site space.
Given the way DASP does it the allotted space is very large.
I've stated in the past that with 30MB on SQL Server 2000 I hosted every person worldwide for Siemens and their accounts.
Database optimization is key and the gains are amazing. [IMG]

  3. Maybe i explain myself the wrong way...

The SQL Server DB mast or must not be bougth separately from the host service? In other words, we have a price for host plus a price for SQL Server DB, or am i wrong?

  4. More clear now [IMG]

Yes the SQL Server, not being part of the site, is added separately.

For those who need it that is still a very good deal, IMHO.

  5. i do not agree... nowdays almost ASP.NET Apps need SQLServer DB for membership to work properly, i think we should have some DB default installed.

But this is my opinion and since the service doesn't meet my requirements i only have one thing to do since there are others hosters that acomplish this requirement by a better price.

    Thanks for the answers...

Yes, you can find a cheaper host who will give you a database with the hosting account. If cost is your only concern, you should go with them.

If security and flexibility are a concern, you should stay with us.

Most hosts that offer free SQL are giving you SQL Express, which is extremely insecure in a shared hosting environment. We could post some code to demonstrate that insecurity, but we don't want to contribute to the problem. Hosts that give you SQL 2000 or SQL 2005 are giving you limited versions of those, packing thousands of accounts on each server, or making up for the cost elsewhere. Trust me, the monthly licensing fees for those servers are substantial. Your SQLperformance on a server with 5,000 users (that's not an exaggeration -we know of hosts that put up to5,000 users on each SQL box)is going to suck. Bad.

If we could offer SQL on the level that we are comfortable with (as far a security, performance, flexibility and costs are concerned), we would do it. But it is simply not possible.

You can always find a cheaper host. I'm sure there is a host out there that will charge you a dollar a month and promise you the world. But you will not have a good experience with themover time, I guarantee that. But I understand that not everyone can pay $20 a month for their hosting. For those who can, no one comes close to us in terms of quality and innovation.

Don't take my word for it. You can review some of the unsolicited testimonials that we have received: http://www.discountasp.net/testimonials.aspx. We have also won many prestigious awards from leading technology magazines like asp.netPRO Magazine, Visual Studio Magazine, .NET Developer's Journal Magazine, including Product of the Year awards and the Best Hosting award for four straight years from asp.netPRO magazine. No other host has ever done that.
