SSL required with commerce starter kit?

    I've been reading trying to figure out if the commerce starter kit requires ssl certificate but I haven't been able to find an answer. It appears that it can work without it but I'd like to be sure before I go any further.

    SSL is an option. You do not need it to get a website functioning. However, when you launch your site, SSL may be something you may want if you are asking customers to providepersonal information via the web so that they feel secure.
