Transfering domain to DASP

Discussion in 'Pre-sales questions' started by John T, Sep 16, 2013.

  1. I have been using your hosting for some time now and am very pleased with the reliability of the service. I’d like to transfer a domain name from my other hosting service to Discount ASP.net but I have a few questions:
    1. Would a transfer to you involve any down time for that domain name? It currently points to the root of the files on my other host but I’d like it to point to the files on DASP [not sure if point is the right word].
    2. I have purchased extra bandwidth on DASP in anticipation of the move. What happens if that bandwidth is exceeded? Do I get cut off or do I get a warning to buy more bandwidth?

    Hi John,

    1. I'm afraid we don't accept the incoming transfer of domain names at this time. If you'd like to use an additional name for your hosting account, you can add it as a domain pointer and then just point the name servers to us.

    2. Our Billing Department will warn you if you exceed the bandwidth limit.

  3. Dear Ray
Thanks so much for your reply.
If I add as a domain pointer, will the URL show the full address of each page visited with the new domain name at the beginning?
The options available are ‘forwarding’ or ‘forwarding with masking’. The first option show the existing DASP domain name in the URL while the second option shows the new domain name but when you navigate through the pages of the site the URL doesn’t add the page/folder names to the end of the URL.
Not sure if I explained that well but do you have any suggestions please?
    Cheers
    John

    Hi John,

"If I add as a domain pointer, will the URL show the full address of each page visited with the new domain name at the beginning?"

Yes, it will show the new URL at the beginning. I'm afraid we don't support "forwarding" or "forwarding with masking".

  5. Thanks Ray, I'll give it a go.
