I submitted a trouble ticket already, just posting here to see if someone has the answer and can get it to me quickly... I have added 3 new users in my account I have given user1 read/write permissions to the "user1" folder in our root directory. When logging in using the user1 account, no folder/files are viewable on the remote side (and if I try to upload I get a permission denied error). I read in the knowledgebase that the default remote directory in my FTP client needs to be set to "/[username]/" but that hasn't worked (tells me the directory doesn't exist). What am I doing wrong?
Ok, right after I posted I figured out how to get in, but wondering if theres a better way. I had to set the remote directory to /[master_username]/[subfolder], not [new_username]/subfolder. Is there a way to have a user drop straight into a single directory that they have rights to. This current setup mean I have to distribute my master username to anybody I want to upload file to me via ftp. Is that correct? Ideally they'd log in and not have to set a remote directory. Any ideas? Mike Reilly, V.P. HBTC Limited - "How 'Bout Them Cowboys" [email protected] www.HowBoutThemCowboys.com (760) 419-7429
umm...nah.. I have only set up single master FTP for web admin. coz I don't think it's good idea to allow others to fool around with our web server....it could pose potential security/virus risks.. Probably, DASP has firewall and anti-virus software installed but I just wouldn't want to risk it.... I used to work with a hosting Co....and we got a lawsuit from a client threatening us for blocking access to their account... However, the story behind scence is pretty naughty...I said naughty coz the employee of the client org., who had access to their web server via FTP, uploaded tons of prono images/movies to our server (their web server) which includes viruses along with these images. Anyway, it was a nightmare for us to recover and "clean up" the mess on our server. J. L. Technical Support/IT Admin/MIS Developer Maxtop Enterprises Inc. http://www.maxtop.ca</CODE>
Mike... unfortunately this is not possible. This is how IIS FTP works. Bruce DiscountASP.NET www.DiscountASP.NET
