    Simple steps

    1) Open your access database that you want to upsize
    2) Goto Tools - > Database Utilities - Upsizing Wizard
    3) Select existing database (A ODBC box will pop up)
    4) Create a new Machine DSN with the SQL server information
    5) Then follow the rest of the step

Hi I am new to this forum and would appreciate any help.

I'm trying to "upsize" my Access 2000 db into my MS SQL server (from my workstation to the server); the db contains three small tables, little data. Should I create a DSN on my machine first, then point to it during the wizard? For the location of the server do I put "http://" before msq.discountasp.net?

Has anyone done this before? If so any tips/guidance would be VERY much appreciated.

    CJ,

See the previous posting on how to upsize to MS SQL.

If you are not too familiar with MS SQL, I suggest you find a consultant or developer to help you set up your site.

Unlike Access, SQL is designed to be a enterprise scale database server that requires certain level of relational database knowledge.

I am also new to this forum and new to upsizing Access 2000 to SQL. Could someone please provide more detailed information on how to do this? For example what Data Source do I use? What and where do the SQL details do and go? Once upsized, what's next? I want to make an asp front so others can use the database. How do we review and enter/amend new records...through an asp page? How do I get the reports inherit to Access available for anyone, including those without Access on their own PC's?

First thing is first I guess. How do I upsize?

I am just your typical 'normal' run-of-the-mill user and possess very little knowledge.

    Thanks,
    CJ

  5. And I thought this forum was here to assist and teach. I am not spending the money on a developer. Rather, I am trying to learn. What a lot of developers forget is that most users do not understand their lingo and do not appreciate their arrogance. It would be like someone asking me about my field of expertise in Intelligence, and replying, 'we gather and analysis information'.

My query was specific. All I wanted to know was what information from the SQL Control Centre goes into the various fields when using the upsizing wizard in Access 2000. Now, is this question not worthy of your expertise?

  6. Anybody else have a better reply then the previous post?

I don't think you will receive a lot 'better' replies on your question. If you want to upsize your access database to MS SQL, folow the steps Bruce has pointed out in his first reply to your original question. Once you upsized your database, all data will be available in your new SQL-database.

Regarding your other questions, I think Bruce also has a point. If you do not have too much knowledge, you will need a developer to add/update data from your database. Especially the reports are difficult to 'translate' to asp(.net).
