URL to String

I've been looking for a way to resolve the current url to a string. Does anyone know how to do this (i'm sure it's easy, I just can't figure it out).

Reason, I'd like to set an action on my .master page that is triggered based on the current url.

There are a couple of approaches, for the full url that is in the client's address bar you can do this -
