  1. Hey guys i need your help i want to install a vbulletin forum on my site , now i have the domain name which is registered with godaddy but referring back to my hosting at discountasp . i am wondering if it is possible to actually host the forum on godaddy and link to my subdomain on discount asp for http://forum.discount.com . so i would have my main page being hosted at discountasp and my forum at godaddy .

You have hosting at GoDaddy or just domain registration?

I don't know about vBulletin specifically, but from what I've heard about GoDaddy's hosting - and especially its MySQL servers - you might have trouble with it there if your forum becomes busy. But if you have hosting there it's worth a try. It's expensive to "try" vBulletin though, since there is no free or test version.

    vBulletin forum is $195 now.

The only option you have for vBulletin here is to configure it to use a remote database. That's easy, but again, you need a MySQL database somewhere, and I'm not sure how performance would be affected running it that way.

This thing performs a lot of db queries every time you load a page. If it has to wait for those queries to come back via the internet (rather than from a database server in the same room or on the same server), it might be kind of sluggish.

  5. do you think Vbulletin can be used on a sql database if i purchase one discountasp for the forum

No, it cannot use an MS SQL database. vBulletin is only compatible with MySQL.
