  1. I want to create a virtual directory for my website and then set the username/password on the virtual directory so that i can access files on a local file server from my website. I don't see any settings in the control panel for me to do this. I suspect I am blind but can this be done from the control panel?

  2. wise,

thanks for the reply. This is critical for me to have this capability, but it might be able to be done differently. I just don't know how.

Overall, I have PDF files on a file server in our local domain that I want to allow to be viewed from the web site hosted here. The way I know how to do it is go into IIS and create a virtual directory that physically points to the directory I want on my fileserver using UNC names (\\server ip\directory) then enter a username and password on the virtual directory that is will use to access the filepath. I then create the username/pwd on the fileserver and give it read only access on the directory.

I can create a local folder and store the files in my website but then I have to transfer them from the file server to the website. I prefer not to do that but that may be my only option. I'd be interested if anyone else is doing something like this and how they accomplished it.
