Confusing statement in MS IIS Manager

Discussion in 'Windows / IIS' started by Warren, May 29, 2013.

  1. Hi, I just migrated my account from 2008 to 2012, and couldn't get web deploy to work.

It turned out that my primary account didn't have the required permission.

IIS Tools -> MS IIS Manager states:
The primary account user is granted IIS Manager access by default.

Will despite this, things only started working for me once I checked the box next to my primary account and hit update. My understanding from the statement in the first paragraph is that I didn't need to do this, so took me a while trying other things before I gave this a whirl.

You may want to change the wording to make it a little clearer that people need to enable the primary account themselves.

Otherwise, thanks for an AWESOME upgrade facility.

Thanks for bringing up this bug! I'm glad you were able to figure it out. It actually is supposed to be enabled by default, and usually is, but in a few cases I have noticed that it is not enabled automatically when a customer migrates from an older version of IIS.
