  1. Hi,

I'm new to the whole asp.net deal. Utilizing Microsoft Visual Web Developer Express, I've created a very simple login application. As you may well know, an aspnetdb.mdf file is created when creating users and membership roles (by VWD 2005 Express). I've assembled the project, uploaded it using the built VWD Express tools, and then I load the page. When I go to login, I get an awful error:

    Server Error in '/' Application.

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

I discovered your service when utilizing LearnVisualStudio.net videos. Is this an error on my end (I have enabled TCP/IP (remote connections)) or is this a database hosting issue on your side? How do I resolve this issue?

  3. quick question, regarding your response...

For this sort of database (login) is it necessary to buy the database package that you offer? I noticed that the knowledge base article you posted refers to "our" (discountasp) database...

Just want to make sure that I have the necessary tools before running into a brick wall again... Thanks!

To use SQL, you'll need to add the SQL addon to your hosting account.
